Geosynthetic Clay Liners

Needle-punched sodium bentonite barrier, k ≤ 5 × 10⁻¹¹ m/s

SOLONAX GCL

Natural sodium bentonite encapsulated between a woven carrier and a nonwoven cover, needle-punched through the full section and thermally locked. A 10 mm hydrated bentonite layer is hydraulically equivalent to roughly a metre of compacted clay, and it self-seals around penetrations.

Why it is specified

  • Swell index ≥ 24 mL/2 g — natural sodium bentonite, not activated calcium
  • Index flux ≤ 1 × 10⁻⁸ m³/m²/s to ASTM D5887
  • Peel strength ≥ 360 N/m — internal shear resistance for slope installations
  • Overlap sealing with supplementary bentonite; no welding equipment on site
  • Declared to EN 13361, EN 13491, EN 13492 and EN 13493
Range

Variants

CodeDescription
GCL-SStandard — woven carrier, nonwoven cover
GCL-XReinforced — higher peel strength for slopes steeper than 1V:3H
GCL-LLaminated — bonded LLDPE film for very low flux and gas tightness
GCL-PPolymer-enhanced bentonite — leachate and brine resistant
